A friend gave me a rather large present for my birthday...Les Miserables...a classic...over 800 pages. Guess what?! I loved it. Everyone should read it.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
How did I come about reading this book? I already told you this. It was a gift.
What did I learn about the author? I can't remember what I learned about him because I read about it him back in November. He's French.
Is the book science fiction? No. Wonderfully written fiction.
Is the book illustrated? No. I did like the blank pages breaking things up because it was like reading extra pages but not really having to read.
Do I like the characters? Incredibly much. I did have to take a few notes because there were a lot of characters, but it was easy to identify the main characters after a little while.
Does the book remind me of anyone I know? Yes.
Is there an identifiable central conflict? Yes. Except there are also a lot of little themes going on as well. It's definitely about Jean Valjean's journey. There are many other characters who are just as prominent. All of their stories intersect.
Did any part of the book inspire me in any way? Mmmmm....I'm not really sure. Probably in kindness.
Will I read any other books by this author? I just might. It was a surprisingly easy read. I got lost a few times, but I easily found my way back.
How long did it take me to read the book? Two months. I started on December 1 and finished January 30. I wanted to finish it in December, but I only read 200 pages. I read over 600 in January. I had to read a lot every day to keep up. I'm eager to move on to books I received at Christmas (and a few before that).
Go read this book.
