What?! Two book reviews in one week?! I was reading up Tortilla Flat the other night when I ran into a friend...or a friend appeared in the same place as me because I haven't mastered reading and running at the same time.. I'm pretty sure the title caused our sudden craving for Mexican food.
Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck
How did I come about reading this book? This book was not originally on my Steinbeck-to-read list. I watched the movie in the fall and liked it. Then I got it for Christmas.
What did I learn about the author? I think I learned something, but I've started another book since then....
Is the book science fiction? Very fiction. Very stereotyped.
Is the book illustrated? No. Not even very illustrative language. BUT I do love that some of the characters speak in Olde English every-once-in-awhile b/c it's like me falling into my British accent.
Do I like the characters? Some of them. I liked Pirate and Danny the most.
Does the book remind me of anyone I know? Mmmmm....in a few instances, but the characters were a little too fictionally sterotypical to relate to people I actually know.
Is there an identifiable central conflict? Yes. Don't work. Drink wine.
Did any part of the book inspire me in any way? Not really. Except maybe to work harder. And not be a bum.
Will I read any other books by this author? Indeed! Still have so many to go!
How long did it take me to read the book? A couple weeks. Short book. It was a little tedious toward the end, but the last couple chapters were good again. By the last quarter of the book, it was getting repetative. (There isn't spell check on the version of blogger...I might've already told you this, but it's a new discovery to me every time I want to spell check a word and I forget.)
