little things

Once upon a time I spent $25 to attend an old lady convention a sewing luncheon (which included Steak & Shake, a terrible guest speaker that made a bunch of old lady things (tell me why crafting should be so ugly), interesting conversation, a good idea, and a good deal ($2.50).

I’ll tell you about the good things.

I'm going to make things with this fabric.  I will start with some cute pillows (from the blue fabric) for my couch to match the cute pillow I bought at World Market last year.  The blue fabric reminds me of pink fabric in my mom's stash from the 60s/70s.  That's why I bought it.  It's very 70s polyester doubleknit and smells like it (even after I washed it which is one thing I hate about the vintage fabrics I've been buying, so I need to look up how to get those dingy smells out of fabric without ruining the fabric).  BUT it's fantastic.  And there's 2 yards of it.  The other fabrics are linen-like.  I bought them because they were solid colors I could use and only 50 cents.  (Why is there not a cents sign on the keyboard?)

Everything was half off on the tables in the back of the room in the store after lunch.  So I got the pile pictured above for $2.50.  I bought the shorts pattern because it reminded me of the time my mom took my brother and I to Walmart (the really old-fashioned Walmart where they had a huge sewing department) to pick out our very own fabric for shorts she was going to make us.  One day I hope to do the same.

The only thing I really, really liked about the luncheon was the table I sat at.  It was decorated with Betty Crocker items and wonderful vintage style aprons.  I also went home with the following:

It's a cupcake potholder.  I'm planning on trying to make a few.  It's very cute.
