My Life in France by Julia Child
How did I come to read this book? When I was making my summer reading list (which I barely got through), I did a search for Paris, and this book came up. I told a friend and she happened to have a copy for me to borrow.
What did I learn about the author? She was much more 'real' than I imagined her to be - more carefree and less uptight.
Is the book romantic fiction? It's not fiction or even particularly romantic, but there are romantic moments - she is with her husband in France, afterall.
Is the book illustrated? No. My imagination was illustrated with the descriptions of food.
Do I like the characters? Yes, Julia and her husband, Paul, seem like a delightful couple.
Is there an identifiable central conflict? Learning how to cook, eating, pairing, writing, publishing, living.
Did any part of the book inspire me in any way? To eat. And listen to French music.
Will I read any other books by this author? Probably not.
How long did it take me to read the book? I am ashamed to say it took me a month. I really have been otherwise occupied in the past month.
What does the book say? "But I was a pure romantic, and only operating with half my burners turned on; I spent most of my time there just growing up." (p99)
What is one word that describes this book? delicious
