In upcoming weeks I will be sharing with you recent projects that were intended for Christmas gifts. I cannot show you all of the those projects now (not very many this year) since I haven't given those gifts away yet. However, I can show you a mug rug I started making last month.
I love eating soup once October rolls around, and I also really like saving money. Taking soup to work works out quite nicely. I have a soup mug that I can pour a can of soup (or homemade if I ever get around to it) to take on the go. I seem to have a problem with grabbing hot objects with my bare hands. I also have a problem with spilling everything. The mug rugs I previously made have turned out to be quite handy. I decided my soup mug needed such a rug so that I could have a space for crackers and a spoon - and perhaps have my fingers from burns and the table from large spills.
I used fabric from my vintage stash and leftover binding from the placemats I made at Mother's Day. I used a decorative stitched in the middle. I decided that stitching-the-ditch would be best for finishing since 1. I needed to move on to other projects, 2. I've seen enough other mug rugs to know that these sorts of things don't have to be perfect, 3. I don't plan on using this as a reversible rug.
