my military training

I have been learning a lot about the military in past months.  I do not come from a military family unless you count a great great uncle and great uncle and 2nd cousin-in-law who are all much older than myself.  I have been quite ignorant as to all the military entails.  BUT now I'm dating a Marine.  And he's an awfully cute Marine!  Ever since the first time we spoke, he has been giving me military lessons.  I wouldn't be very good at taking a quiz, but my appreciation for all those serving in the military and their families has increased...exceedingly.

I recently attended a Marine Corps Ball* with said boyfriend.  The ceremony was quite incredible and I felt honored to be in attendance.  This year's ceremony included a video about 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. My boyfriend served overseas a few years ago and I am so incredibly proud of him and all of his years of service.

One lesson I received before attending the Marine Corps Ball was the reason for wearing different uniforms for different occasions.  Here are you seeing Dress Blues "A."  I wasn't a man-in-uniform type of girl before but now my favorite uniforms are Dress Blues "C" and utilities.  I don't remember what N's medals are without him retelling me, but I do think they look rather nice.

I am wearing one of my many bridesmaid dresses and 4" heels that I bought specifically to cut off my circulation for the occasion.  I walked with grace (slowly so as not to trip on my dress) and required some assistance when dancing for any length of time.  I wore borrowed jewelry from my mother that matched my shoes.  N surprised me with gardenias for my hair to add an extra touch of vintage.

As Christmas comes upon us, it is time to remember to give to others.  I have suggested other organizations to you in the past, so I will not revisit those in this post (and I will have a new ministry for widows and orphans to tell you about in the future that I am very excited about...if you want information before Christmas, please let me know).  This year I thought it might be nice to highlight something for the troops.  There are so many ways you can help support our troops.  I do not have a comprehensive list for you, but one organization I recently read about is Operation Happy Note.  Since I have shipped internationally (and domestically), I know how expensive it can be.  I also know from friends that care packages for our troops are wonderful gifts to receive.  Music is a great way to lift the spirits of those you are making and receiving the sound of music. I have also heard of people sending over baked goods, letters, and other items to encourage the men and women who are serving overseas.

Etsy code: Enter MARINE at checkout for 15% off your purchase.  This offer is good Monday, December 5 until I have time to write another post.

* The Marine Corps Ball is in celebration of the USMC birthday on November 10.
